Proper Prep Before Ceramic Coating
Why do we polish before ceramic coating? Because long lasting, glossy protection starts with proper prep.
For a slick look and proper bond, we have to first tackle issues on the paint that you can’t always see. Especially with new vehicle paint (from transporting and sitting on the lot). Not only that, but these coatings are designed to last long-term. You don’t want to lock in imperfections/markings or they will be there to stay after the coating has hardened.
Crucial Steps to Proper Prep:
✔ Chemical decontamination wash to remove contaminants and iron deposits/fallout. The pores on paint, new or used, can become clogged with dirt, dust, road grime, brake dust, tar, industrial fallout and other pollutants that are sometimes hard to see.
✔ Paint enhancement polish (at minimum) for a smooth, clean, glossy surface. If swirling/scratches are more severe, we may even reccomend a Paint Correction beforehand.

A ceramic coating is basically a more durable, long lasting wax. By chemically bonding with a vehicle's paint, ceramic coatings create a durable barrier that repels water, dirt, and other contaminants while also protecting from UV.
The surface becomes hydrophobic, making washing easier and also adding amazing depth and gloss.
Ceramic coatings are sometimes also referred to as Nano Coatings or glass coatings. -

A hydrophobic surface will keep rainwater from sitting, and contaminants such as bird droppings, bugs, dirt, and brake dust will be easily removed.

Both PPF and Ceramic Coatings offer unique benefits. PPF helps prevent impact damage (rock chips, scratches/scuffs), while Ceramic Coating protects against environmental factors (bugs, hard water, etc) and enhances surface properties making it easy to wash.
The best protection would be using PPF in high-impact areas and applying Ceramic Coating overall, which is why we combine both in our New Vehicle Protection Packages for layered protection.

There are a few reasons someone may be unsatisfied with a Ceramic Coating. Most commonly, it is due to a low-quality product that promises the world but fails to preform. Or, a product that didn’t receive adequate prep or applied incorrectly.
If it was a professional coating with proper install, it’s likely due to neglected aftercare. Ceramic coatings have “pores” and, without proper aftercare to prevent build-up, you may lessen the gloss or hydrophobic properties. These products require upkeep, but issues are easily prevented with proper vehicle washing and drying techniques, safe products, and limiting exposure to elements.

All coatings do require minimum maintenance and care to ensure maximum benefits of the coating last the stated duration.

The coating itself is not designed for rock chip protection, but can easily be paired with a paint protection film, which is.

A ceramic coating does require regular maintenance to maintain its effectiveness and the SB3 warranty. This should include regular washing and frequent decontamination.
To make this easier for you, we do the required decontamination maintenance for you when you purchase a 3, 5 or 7 Year SB3 Coating. This means a quick visit to us twice a year, at no additional cost. All you have to do is your regular washing in between visits! This is important for longevity and warranty of the product.

No! If anything, a ceramic coating will enhance the color and shine of the paint, but it doesn’t change the color.

Professional Ceramic coatings can only be removed with polishing.
Alternatively, after the coating has reached the end of it’s stated lifespan, it will remove over time and doesn’t require to be polished off, unless you are re-applying protection..

What are Ceramic Coatings?
Ceramic Coatings, or nano-coatings, are a liquid polymer product that create a smooth and glass-like protective layer after interlocking and chemically bonding to a surface. These coatings will add environmental protection to your cars paint, along with self-cleaning properties.
An SB3 Ceramic Coating provides an invisible, hydrophobic shield to block UV and prevent oxidation, keep surface contaminants off, make cleaning easier and create a ceramic gloss for that beloved "wet paint" look.
While this protection prevents UV fading and fine marring, it is not designed for rock chip protection. If that’s a concern, it's best to combine it with a paint protection film.
Similar to a paint job, the best prep leads to the best results. To ensure the bond is effective, a full exterior decontamination and single stage enhancement polish is included, especially important for longer duration coatings.
Keeping in mind that, once bonded, the ceramic coating will lock in the surface condition below. If surface defects are severe or you’d prefer more fine-tuned paint, upgrading from a polish to Paint Correction is a good idea.
